December's AHSGE will be given during the week of December 5th to all seniors who have not previously passed any subtest. Please make sure you're at school by 7:45 a.m. with two #2 pencils. Here's the schedule:
Monday - Social Studies
Tuesday - Biology
Wednesday - Math
Thursday - Reading
Friday - Language

The ACT will also be given at CCHS on December 10th. Make sure you're registered for the ACT during 2012 by visiting http://www.actstudent.org/. Happy Holidays!

A Time of Thanks

During this Thanksgiving Season, we would like to thank our parents for being so involved in their child's lives. It makes a huge difference on academic achievement when parental involvement takes place!

Also, we would like to congratulate the new inductees into the National Honor Society and Beta Club. Your hard work has paid off!

Seniors, don't forget...the AHSGE will be the week of December 5 - 9. Prepare, prepare, prepare!
The ASVAB will be given to Juniors and Seniors interested in attending the military on Monday, November 21, 2011.

As we end 2011, we will be losing many valuable people from CCHS. Special thanks to Melanie Cox, Jim Shannon, Mary Caver, Donn Dorminey, Sheila Minor, Gail Williams, and Ed Spence for your years of service to our school and our community. You will be greatly missed!

What a busy week! FFA, SADD and several seniors will be venturing out on different tours and conferences this week. A Huntingdon representative will be at school during 3rd block on Tuesday if you're interested in attending. Juniors who will take AP classes need to take the PSAT which will be Wednesday. The results from the Spring AHSGE will be given out on Friday, April 1st. Seniors will report to the guidance area after homeroom. Freshmen through juniors should report to the auditorium. The next scheduled AHSGE will be for juniors or seniors and will be July 11 - 15, 2011 in the CCHS lunchroom.

Congratulations to our new National Honor Society and National Beta Club inductees. We are proud of your academic excellence and character in and outside of school.

The midyear AHSGE will be this week (December 6 - 10). The schedule is as follows: Monday - Language, Tuesday - Social Studies, Wednesday - Biology, Thursday - Math, Friday - Reading.

DON'T FORGET! It's time for ordering your senior supplies. Your cap & gown rental, diploma, diploma cover, and medallion will cost $85.00. Your $80 deposit is due on November 2nd. You have until March 1, 2011 to pay the balance of what you order. Individual announcements are 85 cents each, if you don't order them in a package.

A special thanks to Mrs. Arrington for allowing us to use her computer lab to take the needs assessment. This assessment is being used to determine the needs of students in our school. Random classes from each grade were chosen to participate in this anonymous survey. The results will be in soon, and we will use them to better our school.

We are proud to say that last week's AHSGE was successful. We appreciate those teachers who served as test administrators, proctors, and helped us complete our task.

Don't forget that numerous senior events are going on! Make sure to check out the SENIORS section of the school webpage. There are many opportunities to apply for various scholarships, and there are many schools that will host preview days in October. Special thanks to the University of Alabama for hosting a counselors' luncheon on Monday, August 30, 2010. We enjoyed meeting and discussing UA statistics and future plans of undergraduate admissions, while sampling some fine food at the Montgomery Country Club. A few students attended the UA Honors Reception Monday night. We hope they are excited about the possibilities that UA can offer.

There are several upcoming events that are important to seniors! Our local College and Career Fair will be held at the FUMC Activity Center on September 15th. If you're interested in attending a National College Fair, the Bham Jefferson Civic Complex will hold an event on Sunday, September 19th from 1-4 pm. This is an important resource for students looking for educational options beyond high school. Free and open to the public, the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) invites sophomores, juniors, and seniors to the National College Fair. We just wanted to take the time to say, "THANKS FOR BEING PATIENT WITH US" to students, parents, and our fellow teachers. Our computer system crashing and an increase in enrollment has placed hardships on the ease of things, so we appreciate your willingness to wait on us to come to you to fix schedules.

The Beginning of a New Year!

Monday begins a new academic year, a time to learn, to make memories, to prepare for the future! In case you didn't know, registration for the next ACT ends this Friday, August 6th. Don't forget to pick up your fee waiver if you qualify. The registration is easiest by going to www.actstudent.org.

On Monday, we'll meet in the auditorium for an assembly, and you will get your schedules at that time. If you have any problems with your schedule, feel free to sign up in the guidance lobby, and we'll contact you as soon as possible to see what we can do.

Best wishes during this new year! We hope that you will take this year seriously, make wise decisions in all aspects of your life, and come on Monday with a positive attitude! See you soon!

AHSGE for Seniors!

The Alabama High School Graduation Exam will be given during the week of July 12th - 16th for the Classes of 2010 and 2011. If you have not successfully completed a portion of the AHSGE, we encourage you to attend and take this test. You will need to be in the CCHS Lunchroom at 7:45 a.m. The dates/subjects are as follows: Monday - Science/Biology, Tuesday - Math, Wednesday - Reading, Thursday - Language, Friday - Social Studies.

Last Minute Info...

Seniors will have their last practice on Friday, May 12th at 9:25 a.m. All seniors should attend this practice. Final exams for seniors will be on Monday, May 17-18, 2010. The Senior Breakfast will be on May 21 at 7:45 a.m., followed by Senior Day at 9:00 a.m. Baccalaureate will be on Sunday, May 23rd at 6 p.m., and graduation will take place on Thursday, May 27th at 6 pm. All events will be held in the CCHS Auditorium. We are very proud of our seniors! Congratulations to the Class of 2010!

AHSGE results will go out today. The next administration of the AHSGE will be July 12 - 16, 2010.

The Alabama Direct Assessment of Writing will be taken by 10th graders on Wednesday.

The ACT will be given this Saturday. The SGA is sponsoring tutoring sessions in preparation for this after school. See the SGA link on the website for more information.

Last, but not least, we will be scheduling freshmen and sophomores this week. Parents, please go over this information with your child. Your support of his or her education is appreciated.

Juniors Registering for 2010-2011

On Monday, I gave those in attendance course offering and course request sheets. If you didn't get one, come by the guidance area and grab one. I will meet individually with you by the end of the week to discuss credits, courses for next year, and what you must complete to graduate. Congratulations!....you're almost done! :)

Attention Seniors!

Submit a baby photo for the senior slideshow NO LATER than March 12th to your homeroom teacher. After March 12th, there will be a $5 charge. Absolutely NO PHOTOS will be accepted after March 26th. The picture must be of only the graduate. Pictures should be less than 8x10 in size. No nude baby photos will be included.

Submit one memory from earlier years to class historians by March 26th. Nominations for class colors, song, motto, and flowers should be submitted to senior class officers by March 22nd. If you want to submit a class poem for nomination, they must be submitted to Mrs. Ward by March 22nd.

Financial Aid Information

An advisor will be at Jefferson State Community College on Wednesday, March 10th to help with financial aid. Call (205) 280-8200 for more information. FAFSA preference deadline for most colleges is March 15th, so make sure you file your income taxes and go to www.fafsa.ed.gov. to apply for student loans and pell grants.

Also of note, CAP & GOWN PHOTOS are Thursday morning. Guys--wear a white shirt with tie (tie will show), and ladies will wear a scoop necked shirt which cannot be seen under the gown.

A representative will be available in the library on Thursday from 9:15 - 9:45 a.m. if you're interested in attending UAB.

9th Graders to Visit LCTC on Monday

On Monday, February 8th, 9th graders will visit the LeCroy Career Technical Center to see the various programs offered on that campus. There will be two groups that go. Parents who are interested in touring the facility need to call Mr. Tommy Glasscock at (205) 280-2920.

On the 26th of January, representatives from LeCroy Career Tech Center will be visiting with the 9th graders to discuss programs. This will occur at 9:15 a.m. Also, a representative from Jacksonville State University will be in the lunchroom at 9:30 a.m. to talk with seniors who are interested in attending JSU. Get involved! Please remember that the next administration will be March 1-5, 2009 and will involve the majority of the school.
